The first few minutes of a book, movie, or TV show is extremely important. Without an introduction to one of these things, you’d be lost. An introduction will introduce the characters and give you all essential information needed to understand the movie or book. Usually in a book they will start off with a character calling another name and then describe him/her. These first few minutes help to set up the rest of the plot by leading you to ideas or thoughts about what is going on. Mostly, it gives you back round information on key points of the movie or book, for if you didn’t have an introduction or read the first few pages, you would most likely be lost and confused through out the rest of the book or movie.
For example, with out watching the first few minutes of the new TV show, October Road, future issues would have never made sense. All though, the first few minutes were some what boring, for I had to watch it two times, it helped me understand what was going on. The two main characters Hannah and Nick were going out all through out high school and loved each other. The first few minutes explained that since school was now out and it was summer everyone was going to be hanging out and having fun, except for Nick. Nick was going out the town Nights Ridge for a little, and into a whole different state to explore. “It will only be 5 weeks and ill be back,” Nick promised Hannah. When Nick is leaving, it shows Ray Cataldo, Nick’s enemy watching him leave town, including his girlfriend and his best friends. The next minute shows Nick 10 years later living in New York, talking to his publisher, of a book he wrote. The publisher tells him he was offered to talk about his book, to a school in Knights Ridge. Nick is hesitant about his decision, but decides that after 10 years, without a call or visit, it is time to go back.
With out this information, I would’ve never known why Nick was so hesitant to return home; he has to face the love of his life, whom is now engaged to Ray Cataldo, and the family and friends his book was based upon. Most friends would be happy to have a book written about them, but in this situation Nick explained each one of his friends in the worst way possible, however; it wasn’t written out of hatred or meaning to hurt them. When Nick got home, I understood why everyone was being so cold towards him. Without knowing how many years Nick had been gone for, I wouldn’t have known why he was so obsessed and worried with the fact that Hannah’s son, Sam is 10 years old.
Another example of why Nick thinks Sam is his son is because Sam tells Nick he hates when Ray makes a sandwich for him because he always forgets he has a peanut allergy. In the beginning we know that a peanut allergy runs in Nick’s family for all men because we here Nick and his dad joke about it before he leaves for the summer. Therefore, the first few minutes of a show or movie are extremely important. Based upon what we have read so far in Macbeth, some theme that will take place through out the book is evilness, for in the beginning of the book the witches talk and plan with each other.
Motifs seen through out Macbeth are the witches always talking before an evil plan. I feel that since the book introduces the three witches all together, that they will always be together when seen in the book. Another motif as shown when some ladies will say, "unsex me." This is important for they are asking to change from not being human or they want to be something undefinable. Not only are the first few minutes of the first episode of the first season important for a show, but also in the first few minutes of every episode is when most problems occur, for without the introduction a show would be difficult to comprehend and follow.
